Eastern Province To Experience Severe Floods

The Eastern Province’s Mambwe, Luangwa, and Kasenengwa districts are on high alert for major flooding, according to WARMA, the water resources management authority.

According to WARMA Public Relations Officer MUBIANA NALWENDO, the three districts have an 80% chance of experiencing flooding based on data from a flood monitoring system.

According to Mr. NALWENDO, the system displays four triggered points that are probably going to peak in the next days.

He claims there are three alerts: one on the Kasenengwa River, two on the Luangwa River, and one on the Msandile River in the Mambwe District.

According to Mr. NALWENDO, the Luangwa district is displaying signs of severe flooding that would likely climax on February 20, 2023.

According to him, the flooding in Luangwa is expected to worsen around February 16 and start to subside by February 26 of 2023.

On the other hand, according to Mr. NALWENDO, the Msandile River is projected to experience significant flooding around February 10 and start to recede on February 28, 2023.

According to him, Kasenengwa is currently experiencing moderate flooding that is anticipated to become severe by February 12.

In an interview with ZNBC, Mr. NALWENDO stated that the lodges adjacent to the Luangwa river bank as well as areas near the rivers and National Parks and Wildlife Offices will be affected by the floods.

As the administration continues to watch the situation, he has consequently encouraged locals near the rivers mentioned to be extremely vigilant.
