Iom And Unhcr Alerted By 27 Dumped Bodies

The discovery of 27 bodies of Ethiopian nationals in the Chongwe district has disturbed the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Southern Africa.

The tragedy came less than two months after 30 Ethiopian migrants’ bodies were found in a mass grave in neighboring MALAWI and two years after 64 Ethiopian men were discovered dead in a sealed cargo container in Mozambique, which stunned the two organizations.

The organizations further point out that between 2020 and 2021, 41 people died in Zimbabwe and 22 immigrant families went missing, adding to the tragedies.

No of their status or where they are in their border-crossing travels, migrants and refugees must be protected at all times, according to the two United Nations agencies.

According to a statement made today to ZNBC News in Lusaka by PUMLA RULASHE, Associate Communications Officer for the UNHCR Regional Representation for Southern Africa.
