Skeem Saam promotes Thabo Mkhabela (Leshole Mabitsela) to casting director

South African actor Thabo Mkhabela, who is popularly known for playing the role of Leshole Mabitsela on Skeem Saam has been promoted to casting director.

The actor Thabo Mkhabela, who plays Leshole Mabitsela on the show is now working behind the scenes.

Social media blogger @Jabu_Macdonald, who’s a fan of the show tweeted: “Thabo Mkhabela is now a casting director.”

Mkhabela took a break from the educational soapie at the end of season nine when his character joined the army to fulfill his dream job of being a pilot.

He tells Sunday World that he joined the show after finishing his degree: “I must say performance- wise I have grown, and it has been amazing to experience.”

“I did not leave the soapie. I have been working behind the scenes as a casting director, and I was grateful to have been given that opportunity.”

“It is breathtaking because I actually go find the people who fit the character or role written on the script.”

Mkhabela, who made headlines when his on-screen father Charles Maja, who played Big Boy Mabitsela passed away in 2020 tells Sunday World that his passing was very hard for him as they shared a special bond on and off-screen.

“We would discuss everything and being with him I learned a lot, and I hope wherever he is he is proud of how far I have come with the character.”
