Lightning struck a visually challenged student in Ndola

At the Lions School for the Visually Impaired in Ndola, a ninth-grade student who was standing beneath a tree when lightning struck him has perished as a result.

Around 16:00 on Wednesday, Allan Kapeya, age 21, met his end as it was pouring fiercely outside.

According to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, the student had burns from his leg up to his chest on the left side of his body.

“The incident occurred at around 16:00 hours when Allan was standing under a big tree within the school premises. He was hit by lightning and died instantly. Police rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased lying on the ground. After physical inspection, the body of the deceased had burns on the left side of its body from the left leg up to the chest,” said Mr Mweemba.

He said the matter was reported to the police by Brian Musonda 53, a braille transcriber at the school.

Mr Mweemba said the body has been taken to the  Ndola Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
