Man, 71, passes away en route to the hospital

In Mkushi, Central Province, a 71-year-old man of South African heritage was discovered dead in the driver’s seat of his car that was stopped by the side of the road along Great North Road.

It’s thought that Daniel Teodorus Ver Den Berg, who served as the branch manager for SARO Agro Industries in Mkushi, was on his way to the hospital when he passed away.

The deceased is thought to have called the doctor to let him know he was going earlier, before driving himself to the hospital, but he tragically passed away on the way.

The terrible and tragic occurrence, which Central Province Police Commissioner David Chileshe revealed to Mwebantu, took place between March 16 and March 17 at 06:00.

“Police have recorded an incident of sudden and unnatural death involving the branch Manager for SARO Agro Industry identified as Mr Daniel Teodorus Veb Den Berg aged 71 a South African National of Vidmar farms who was found dead in the drivers seat of his Nissan Hardbody Registration Number BAJ 5512 near Karan Filling Station with the vehicle parked slightly off the Great North road. The deceased was unwell and was on his way to Tusekelemo private hospital when he met his death,” he said.

Mr Chileshe said the deceased had earlier around 22:50 hours phoned the private hospital that he was unwell and was on his was on his way to see the doctor.

“However, he failed to make it. Police picked the body of the deceased and deposited it into Mkushi District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem .Investigations into the death have been instituted,” he said.

A nine-year-old child who had been struck by a car died as soon as he arrived at the hospital, in the meantime.

Daliso Mwale is thought to have been crossing the street close to the Liteta market in the Central Province when he was struck by Sampa Mutati’s Hino Ranger vehicle, registration number BAK 6977, which has now been taken into custody by the police.
