Nationals of Congo protest the shooting of criminals

Numerous Congolese citizens protested on the Congolese side of the entrance point this morning, leaving hundreds of passengers and truck drivers stranded at the Mokambo border crossing in Mufulira.

This comes after the Anti Robbery Squad shot and killed JOHN KAYOMBO, a suspected notorious criminal from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, two days ago in the Olasho neighborhood of Mufurila.

According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner PEACEWELL MWEEMBA, KAYOMBO is thought to be responsible for a string of robberies in the Mufulira district in which taxi drivers are arrested and then attacked by thugs brandishing unidentified firearms.

Furthermore, hundreds of drivers and other members of the public are stuck on the Zambian side after failing to pass into the DRC, according to ZNBC’s TAMARA MUSWALA, who hurried to the border at Mufurila.

The stranded travelers and truck drivers have been reassured by Mufulira District Commissioner SABOI KABIKA that the administration is attending to the problem and that very soon the cars would start crossing into DRC.

Police claim that the DRC Consular General in Ndola has already been contacted to assist in the quickest resolution of the situation.
