Poacher Suspected shot dead

After a shootout with game scouts at a ranch in Chisamba on land thought to belong to former Republican president Edgar Lungu, one suspected poacher was killed and the other managed to flee with bullet wounds.

In a shootout at the Langani Game Ranch, Mike Tembo, 44 to 46 years old and from the Chibombo district, was killed by gunfire while his accomplice managed to flee.

Since then, police have started a manhunt.

According to David Chileshe, the farm manager of the same farm provided the report to the Central Provincial police department.

He claimed there were two poachers, but one got away with what seemed to be gunshot wounds.

“Police rushed to the scene and found one dead poacher with multiple fatal gunshot wounds on his forehead, right arm, both legs and at the buttocks. A shotgun, Russian made and one round of ammunition loaded in the firing chamber of the gun, a torch, an axe, a knife and one carcass of a warthog were found at the scene,” he said.

According to Mr. Chileshe, the deceased’s identification was discovered through a phone call made on the cellphone that was discovered on his body and answered by a man who declined to reveal his name.

“The body of the deceased’s body has since been deposited into Liteta hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem. This occurred on April 1st, 2023 at about 08:30 hours at Langani Farm on the eastern side of Katuba Toll Station in Chisamba District,” he said.
