Poor Local Authority Performance Caused By Staff Absences: Sejani

The Local Government Service Commission has said that underqualified and improperly positioned staff is to blame for some local authorities’ subpar performance.

According to the staff audit report for the 2022 Commission, said Commission Chair ACKSON SEJANI.

According to Mr. SEJANI, the commission has begun realigning workers and placing them in suitable places to ensure that local governments are operating efficiently and effectively.

In order to decentralize its functions, he continues, the Commission is creating Human Resource Management Committees in each of the ten provinces.

Speaking at the beginning of a five-day workshop in Chongwe that would result in the formation of six Human Resource Management Committees for the Province of Lusaka, Mr. SEJANI was present.

The mayor of Chongwe, CHRISTOPHER HABEENZU, praised the idea and said it would allow local authorities the chance to define and meet goals in a sustainable way.

According to Mr. HABEENZU, the exercise will enable council employees to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities, resulting in the prompt processing of human resource issues at the local level.
