South Africa will file its memorial later this month at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says that while the case is in progress, the hope is to see Israel abide by the court’s provisional orders, which have been issued to date.

Pretoria intends to provide facts and evidence to prove that Israel is committing the crime of genocide in Palestine. The case represents a growing global effort towards ensuring peace in the Middle East. Several countries such as Nicaragua, Palestine, Turkey, Spain, Mexico, Libya, and Colombia have all joined the South African case against Israel.

Lamola says, “We will file the memorial at the end of the month. We will be able to show to the court and prove that genocide is being committed. The first case is related to provisional measures, interim and the ceasefire. Now we have to prove that indeed there is genocide because the provisional orders said it is plausible. We believe our memorial will be able to prove that,” adds Lamola.
