Samukonga and Chanda win top honors at national sports awards

During the 2022 National Sports Awards, which were held in Lusaka, numerous sports figures received recognition in their respective disciplines.
Muzala Samukonga, a Commonwealth Gold Medallist, was named Sportsman of the Year, and Copper Queens striker Grace Chanda was named Sportswoman of the Year.

The Copper Queens and the Pool National Team were named the best teams of the year, and Copper Queens assistant coach Florence Mwila was named the best female coach. Douglas Kalembo was named the best male coach of the year.

Memory Malisawa of ZNBC won the award for best journalist in the electronic media, and Godfrey Dube won the award for print media.
Enoch Mwepu, a former Chipolopolo captain, received the President’s award, and the late Joseph Kabungo, a former team doctor, received the Minister’s award, both from President Hakainde Hichilema.

Also, President Hakainde Hichilema, who was watching the awards live on ZNBC TV, urged the athletes to keep up their hard work for Zambia’s motherland.

The victors were congratulated and given well wishes by Mr. Hichilema.
This was done by having Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu read an SMS message to the audience.
Nkandu added that the government would keep treating all sports equally.
