Shot wounds are received by a suspected criminal

Six of the suspects fled after the owner of the property they stole into started shooting at them with a short gun, leaving one with gunshot wounds.

On February 24, 2023, at around 2:00 a.m., the suspected criminals broke into the house in the Lilayi district, where the 71-year-old owner fired at one of them.

“Police officers were alerted and rushed to the scene where they found the suspect laying on the ground. When interrogated, he identified himself as John Mwelwa aged 25 of unmarked house number in Chalala area. He sustained gunshot wounds on his right arm and was rushed to the University Teaching Hospitals where he is currently receiving medical attention,” police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said.

According to Mr. Mwale, the suspects cut the electric cable before entering the yard through the wall fence.

He claimed that a manhunt had been started for the other accused.
