Solwezi Town Clerk Dead in Road traffic accident

Mutakela Kabombo, the town clerk of SOLWEZI, was killed in a traffic accident close to the Enock Kavindele toll gate in Chingola.

Mr. Mutakela Kabombo passed away when the car he was riding in, driven by 43-year-old Jack Kabeya, lost control from going too fast and collided with two other cars.

According to Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba of the Copperbelt Police, the incident took place on April 21, 2023.

Three motor vehicles were allegedly engaged, the first of which was a Toyota Hilux with the registration number ATB 3893 that belonged to the Solwezi Municipal Council and was severely damaged.

“On board was Mr Kabombo, the Town Clerk who sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot and the body is in Nchanga North Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.

The second vehicle, according to him, was a truck with the Faw registration number BAG9301 that was parked by Edgar Lupale, age 47, of the Twapia police camp in Ndola and had a damaged rear right side.

According to Mr. Mweemba, the third car was a heavily damaged Honda Fit with the license plate BAG2526 that was being driven by 44-year-old Christopher Mulenga of Lilayi, Lusaka.

He claimed Sungachito Benard, 53, of Lusaka, who had a swollen left leg and was being treated at Nchanga North hospital, was riding in the third vehicle.

“The accident happened when the first Motor vehicle was being driven from East to west  due to excessive speed and he went to hit into second motor vehicle which was on the left side of the road and lost control and went on the right lane were it went to hit the third motor vehicle,” he said.
