Teachers, Nurse & Others arrested Trying to sell Albino

Twelve individuals allegedly tried to kidnap and sell a 17-year-old child with albinism from a certain school in Western Province, but Mongu police prevented them.

The 12 people who have been detained began planning to kidnap and sell the boy in October, but prompt police action resulted in their detention.

Four instructors, including a school matron who is 53 years old, a nurse who is 33 years old, a cab driver, and two men who work at a barbershop in Sefula, Mongu District are among the 12 suspects who have been detained.

Additionally, diazepam tablets that were intended to put the victim to sleep after capture were discovered with the suspects.

The 17-year-old youngster from Sefula Combined School for the Blind and living with albinism was intended to be captured by the suspects, according to Zambian police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, who confirmed the occurrence. However, authorities intervened.

“Police recovered some medicine which were labeled as ‘Diazepam’ which and after interrogations, it was heard from the suspects that the medicine was intended to be given to the victim once he was captured.Police also recovered 12 cellular phones which were used for communication by the suspects. Investigations revealed that a plot to traffic a named Albino who is a learner at Sefula combined school for the Blind in Mongu District of Western Province started in October 2022 and a picture of the victim was sent to the purported buyers in Lusaka,” he said.

He said the suspects were all picked on Saturday between 01:00 hours and 04:00 hours in Sefula, Mongu District.
