Testimony in the MALANJI and YAMBA Lawsuit

According to a Principal Accountant from the Ministry of Finance who testified before the Lusaka Magistrates Court, the Zambian embassy in Turkey received more than 154 million Kwacha.

JOSEPH MALANJI, a former foreign affairs minister, and FREDSON YAMBA, a former secretary to the Treasury, were the subjects of TIKIMOJA SICHEMBE’s testimony today.

In this case, Mr. MALANJI and Mr. YAMBA are accused of wilful breaking of the law and possession of property thought to be the proceeds of crime.

It is alleged that between January 2020 and August 2022, Mr. MALANJI, along with unidentified persons, had a helicopter in Lusaka that was thought to be a criminal profit.

Moreover, Mr. MALANJI is believed to have owned the GIBSON Royal Hotel in Kitwe, Zambia, on the Copperbelt, during the same time period.

In collaboration with others, Mr. YAMBA is accused of transferring more than 154 million kwacha to the Zambian Mission in Turkey between January 2020 and August 2022.

This was done in order to purchase real estate without abiding by the rules and regulations.

According to Mr. SICHEMBE, the first payment was made through the Bank of Zambia in December 2020 as a result of a letter to the Secretary to the Treasury requesting approval from the Director Budgeting at the Ministry of Finance.
