Well-known South African author Jackie Phamotse has finally spoken out on her current court case against Basetsana and Romeo Kumalo.

She had been silent about the case since her defeat on Tuesday, 18 September. She was charged with defamation and crimen injuria. This came after she tweeted that there was a s.e.x video of the Kumalos and another male celebrity in 2018.

On Saturday, 24 September, Jackie finally opened up and responded to a tweet saying she was stronger at that moment.

“I was born for a big change. I was made for times like this. I was literally born from a language of militant women and men. My brain and soul are shaped differently. Years of pain and suffering and private victories. Never have I been so strong as in these times,” she wrote.

The sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday 24 October.

Jackie had also recently spoken to the publication about the casting she is holding for her TV series, BARE.

She said that people need to be sure they are comfortable filming s.e.x and rape scenes and can handle nudity.

Speaking to the publication, Jackie (34) said: “The book has a lot of graphic scenes. There is a gang rape scene where five men rape a girl. There is nud1ty in some scenes and they should be comfortable with that. There are some things that will make other actors uncomfortable.

“I have met people who say they love acting but would not compromise on other things. So, it’s very important that they know what they are getting into,” she said.

Jackie said reading the book was a good way to prepare for the show and the audition.

“It’s very important to read the book and understand the characters, who they are, where they come from, and what their personalities are. We don’t want to throw people in at the deep end because they don’t know what they are auditioning for.

“Those who want to audition need to read Blesser’s Game beforehand. You need to read the book and find out if you will be comfortable in these roles. We have a therapist, an acting coach and a doctor on standby at all times because we know how it can affect actors,” she said.

The author said they want to educate young people through the show, which is why they want to cast young and fresh talent.

“We want to cast young and fresh talent. The intention is to create a production that educates young people and tells a story that really speaks to young people, so they could know how human trafficking works and how other things are done. We hope that they will be made aware of these crimes and most importantly that the message of the book will be conveyed in the series,” Jackie said.
