Unrestrained Lusaka dog owner detained after his dogs attack 11-year-old

Unrestrained Lusaka dog owner is detained after his two dogs attack and bite an 11-year-old youngster.

An 11-year-old child from Lusaka’s Mtendere Township was attacked and injured by two dogs, leaving him hospitalized and in severe condition.

The youngster was shot and injured one of the dogs in the PHI area of Benjamin Mwila Road, fortunately saving the boy who had wounds all over his body.

Danny Mwale, a deputy spokesperson for the Zambian police, reported that Mungo Chingaya, the 40-year-old owner of the dogs, has since been detained for being a negligent pet owner.

Mr. Chingaya has since been charged with the offense of Reckless and Negligent Acts, according to Mr. Mwale, who stated that the incident occurred yesterday at or around 15:00.

“An 11 year-old boy of Mtendere Compound in Lusaka sustained dog bite wounds all over his body after he was attacked and bitten by two dogs along Benjamin Mwila Road in PHI. The boy was only rescued by one of the community members who shot and injured one of the dogs.

He was taken by ambulance to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

According to Mr. Mwale, the police responded to the scene and detained the dogs’ owner while the other dogs were confined.

We call on members of the public especially dog owners to always make sure that their dogs are well tamed other than leaving them loose putting the lives of other people in danger. We have been recording alot of cases involving dog bite which have resulted in serious injuries and deaths,” he said.
