At the Chibelo substation in Lusaka, a Zesco employee was electrocuted while working.

At the Chibelo substation in Lusaka, a Zesco employee was electrocuted while performing their job duties.

When the deceased, identified as Fackson Mbewe, arrived at the University Teaching Hospitals in Lusaka, he or she was pronounced dead.

Godfrey Chilabi, an assistant police public relations officer, has verified in a statement that the incident happened on January 23, 2023, at 21:30.

Investigations, according to Mr. Chilabi, show that the deceased was attempting to remove tree branches that had landed on electrical cables at the time of the accident.

“The body is in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.

Lemmy Kajoba, the inspector general of police, has expressed worry over the rise in occurrences of gender-based violence in the Mufumbwe District of North-Western Province.

Mr. Kajoba, according to Mr. Chilabi, has since urged Mufumbwe police officers to step up their community awareness-raising efforts.

“He said community leaders should be involved and take lead in sensitization programmes in order to stop the scourge. The Inspector General of Police said this today, January 24, 2023 when he addressed Police officers in Mufumbwe District,” he said.

Mr Chilabi said the IG has commended Police officers for arresting the hired  killers commonly known as Karavinas in Mufumbwe District.

“He described the arrest as a huge success on the Police as members of the communities in Mufumbwe are now freely going about their business without fear of being attacked.

Police arrested the perpetrators in 2021 and since then cases involving karavinas are unheard of in Mufumbwe District,” he said.
