In an effort to forge a partnership that will support the empowerment of women and youth in Zambia, FIRST Lady Mutinta Hichilema has partnered with a charitable organization with roots in Qatar.
According to Mrs. Hichilema, the Qatari Charity (QC), which has been assisting the weak in conflict-ridden nations and other communities, can help spark answers for Zambian communities.
In order to augment the same for Zambia, Mrs. Hichilema met with Mr. Nawaf Abdulla AlHammadi, the Chief of Global Programs at QC, the largest charity in the Middle East and North Africa.
“We discussed different ways of partnering with the Charity to empower youth and women, as well as the vulnerable in Zambia. We were encouraged how Qatar Charity scope of work dovetails with our core vision for the Office of the First Lady.
Mr AlHammadi talked us through the automated way that QC receives donations from Qatari locals. It was good to see how the Qatari people are stakeholders in funding QC’s projects. We look forward to working with the Charity to finding lasting solutions that will benefit the vulnerable members in our communities,” she said.
A group of Qatari benefactors who were concerned about the growing number of children left orphaned by war and strife in their neighbors’ countries founded Qatar Charity.
So, the benefactors banded together to launch “The Committee of Qatar for Orphan Sponsorship,” a local effort.
Eight years later, a global NGO called “Qatar Charity” was established in order to expand the initiative’s scope, diversify its activities, and increase its reach.
Through extensive humanitarian and development projects that cost a total of 1.2 billion US dollars, the organization has so far reached 29 million people.
