A 18-YEAR-OLD GRADE 11 student at Lufwanyama Boarding School has been detained after he is accused of stabbing two other students, both of whom are 17 years old, in the chest and palm.
The grade 12 prefect victim who attempted to discipline the young suspect over school regulations is thought to have caused him to sharpen an instrument.
In response to the young suspect’s refusal to comply, he allegedly stabbed the prefect twice in the chest as well as another boy who was unable to run on the palm in the dorms.
The tragic occurrence at Lufwanyama Boarding School was confirmed by Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba, who also reported that the young suspect has since been charged with unlawful wounding.
He claimed that the event happened at the boarding school dorms on Saturday about 19:30.
“Brief facts are that the suspect who is a grade 11 pupil had a difference with a school prefect who is a grade 12 after he tried to control him over school rules. However, he did not comply and their differences continued until they reached the dormitories. The suspect became unruly and when other grade 12 pupils who were also in the dormitory tried to advise him, he produced a hard laundry hanging wire which he had sharpened and made into some form of a screw driver from his pocket,” he said.
When the students noticed the knife, according to Mr. Mweemba, they all ducked out of the hostel, but the suspect still managed to stab the victim twice on the left side of the chest, leaving him with two serious stab wounds.
“The suspect also stabbed another pupil within the same dormitory who failed to run on the left palm using the same instrument causing him to sustain a deep stab wound on the left palm,” he said.
He said that the suspect was captured by school officials, who then turned him over to the Lufwanyama Police Station and reported the incident.
According to Mr. Mweemba, the two victims were taken to the hospital and treated before being released. Meanwhile, two dockets for unlawful wounding were opened, medical report forms were distributed, and an arrest was made.
