Together with other law enforcement organizations, the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has taken back approximately 310,000 liters of fuel from illicit fuel merchants.
The cost of the fuel exceeds 8.7 million Kwacha.
This has been the case, according to ERB Director General YOHANE MUKABE, since the fuel labeling program’s start in 2018.
Speaking at a press conference in Lusaka, Mr. MUKABE revealed that the Board had also seen a sharp decline in fuel failure rates, which had gone from 21% in 2018 to roughly 2% by the end of 2022.
This was said by Mr. MUKABE in a speech that ERB Director of Technical Services ALLEN POLITO read on his behalf.
He added that there has been a noticeable improvement in the quality compliance of petroleum products and a sharp decline in the uplifts of kerosene, a substance that was formerly utilized to tamper with gasoline and diesel.
