According to Given Lubinda, ECL is still the PF president

Given Lubinda, deputy president of the PATRIOTIC Front (PF), claims that Edgar Lungu will continue to lead the party until a new leader is chosen at the convention.

And Mr. Lubinda asserted that the United Party for National Development (UPND), the current government’s party, will not pose a danger to PF.

Speaking today on the Lusaka Music Radio program, Mr. Lubinda stated that Mr. Lungu is still the legitimate president of the PF.

“ECL is still legally the president of PF and will cease to be only when he hands over power to the person who will be elected as party president at the convention,” he said.

He added that the 2021 election defeat was actually an opportunity to demonstrate to Zambians that not everything that glitters is gold.

“Praise God he made us lose elections in 2021. He has given the opportunity to show Zambian’s that not all that glitters is gold. When we bounce back in 2026, we would have learned a lot,” he said.

And when a caller questioned Mr. Lubinda about why he did not run for president, he replied that he did not because he had the important responsibility of maintaining the party.

The party, according to Mr. Lubinda, is here to stay and the notice to have it deregistered as a party is a tempest that will be calmed.

“This is a storm and within no time the issue will be sorted and brought to calm. PF is here to stay. Even if it was to be deregistered for whatever reason. There is no threat on PF. We shall continue to remain a united Party,” he said.

Yesterday a notice was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Chief Registrar of Societies Thandiwe Mhende with the intentions to cancel the PF for failure to comply with the order to avail a full and complete list of its office bearers.
