In Chief Kabamba’s village, a 19-year-old Serenje boy died after being struck by a train.
Givers Mambwe, the victim, is thought to have been crossing the railroad tracks with pals when he was struck by a train.
Police have already started an inquiry into the fatality, but the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are still unknown.
The tragic train accident was confirmed by Central Province Police Commissioner David Chileshe. He claimed it happened yesterday at around 21:40 at Kabuluma Railway Station, which is located 1,660 kilometers from Dar-es-Salaam and 21 kilometers east of Serenje Railway Station.
“A 19-year-old male juvenile identified as Givers Mambwe of Kabamba Village in Chief Kabamba’s Chiefdom, was run over by Train number M1 LOCO 3001 driven by T. Kasanga of Tazara Compound, as he was crossing the rail line in the company of his his friends. He sustained fatal head injuries, a fractured leg and died on the spot,” he said.
Mr Chileshe said the body is lying in Serenje District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
“The reasons for the accident remain unclear and police have launched an investigation into the death,” he said.
