Concession Contract At Walvis Bay Dry Port Terminated By Gov

Due to poor performance and underuse of the facility, the government has canceled the concession contract for the administration of the Dry Port facility in Walvis Bay.

Government has given the concessionaire a six-month notice to terminate, according to Zambia’s High Commissioner to Namibia, STEVEN KATUKA.

Today in Windhoek, Mr. KATUKA told ZANIS that the government had grown concerned since the concessionaire had not been doing well.

The 30,000 square meters of land that Namibia gave to Zambia has only been used on 10,000 square meters, the Zambian High Commissioner regrets.

Mr. KATUKA also revealed that investors are still looking for funding, which has prevented the private sector-led construction of a gas and oil pipeline from Namibia to Zambia from moving forward.

He claims that the pipeline’s building is a positive initiative because it will aid in stabilizing Zambia’s petroleum subsector.
