Following Mark X driver’s collision with Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank Building in Lusaka, six people Injured

After being struck by a car inside the Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank Building in Central Park, close to the intersection of Cairo and Church roads in Lusaka, SIX persons have survived with injuries.

The victims, who also include one man, range in age from 25 to 30.

The incident occurred today, March 22, 2023, around 08:00 hours at the intersection of Cairo and Church roads, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale. Kenneth Zulu, 32, the driver of the Toyota Mark X with the registration number BAV 3497, was traveling from the south (the Mobile City area), when he lost control of the vehicle as he was joining Church road.

He claimed that the motorist veered off the road and struck the Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank building before striking the six employees who were working there.

The driver of the Mark X and one other accident victim who suffered a fractured left leg were both taken to university teaching hospitals, according to Mr. Mwale.

“The motor vehicle caused serious damages to the building and its office equipment. The vehicle had its bonnet, front bumper, right fender and windscreen damaged,” he said.

Meanwhile, a railway collision in Kafue District resulted in the death of an unidentified woman in her 30s to 35s and the injury of her seven-year-old child.

According to Mr. Mwale, the incident occurred at Kafue Train Station on March 21, 2023, at 14:15.

“Brief facts are that the Train Operator identified as Leo Phiri aged 57 of Choma District who was operating Train number 202up from Choma to Kafue saw a woman who was with her son walking too close to the rail line. He hooted several times but the woman could not give way until she was hit together with her son,” he said.

Mr Mwale said the woman died instantly after sustaining several cuts on her body while her son was rushed to Kafue General Hospital where he is admitted.

“The condition is said to be stable. The body of the deceased has been deposited in Kafue General Hospital Mortuary awaiting formal identification and postmortem. Police have opened inquiry files into both incidents,” he said.
