Four Local Government wards have dates set by ECZ

The Itala Ward of the Lunga Town Council in Luapula Province, the Kashikishi Ward of the Nsama Town Council in Northern Province, the Kapanda Ward of the Kasama Municipal Council in Northern Province, and the Nyatanda Ward of the Chavuma Town Council in North-Western Province will all hold ward by-elections on Friday, January 20 of the following year.

According to ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Luhanga, the nominations for the aforementioned by-elections will take place on December 15, 2022, a Thursday.

She claimed that the resignations of councilors in the four (4) wards were the cause of the by-elections.

The polling stations will be open from 6:00 am to 18:00 pm.

“The Electoral Commission of Zambia would like to further announce the suspension of

continuous registration of voters in Kasama with immediate effect due to the scheduled

by elections in line with Section 12 of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016. The voter registration exercise will resume on Monday, 23rd January 2023 after the polls,”she said.

Aspiring candidates in the by-elections should submit their completed, attested, and subscribed statutory declaration and candidacy documents before a Magistrate, Local Court official, according to Ms. Luhanga.

on Thursday, December 15, 2022, between 9:00 and 15:00, Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner for Oaths, Election Officer, or Returning Officer.

Additionally, she stated that non-refundable nomination fees would be charged to all potential candidates in these by-elections.
