Fully reserved: Livingstone anticipates more visitors

In advance of the holiday season, the Livingstone Tourism Association (LTA) reports that accommodation occupancy in the tourist city is currently at 75%.

The organization is hopeful that Livingstone will attain 100% occupancy in the next one to two days leading up to Christmas, according to acting LTA Chairperson HILARY KASHEMPA.

In an interview, Mr. KASHEMPA stated that domestic tourists are the main occupiers and that their numbers have been rising to boost tourism.

According to Mr. KASHEMPA, tourism recovery is currently at 65%, up from 50% at the end of the second quarter.

Given that the industry had nearly collapsed at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, Mr. KASHEMPA claimed that the recovery had been rather impressive.

He claimed that the tourism industry is anticipated to fully recover thanks to government initiatives and the Zambia Tourism Agency’s determination to lure up to 1,500,000 tourists to the nation the following year.
