A FEW students who recently took part in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science celebration were inspired to enroll in scientific and medical courses in an effort to expand the number of female medical professionals.

The girls were recently hosted by Healit Zambia, a full-service referral laboratory offering services like Molecular Biology,Covid-19 tests Haematology, among others, to give them the chance to have firsthand experience on how certain medical tests and procedures are done in order to motivate their interests.

The students also engaged with highly skilled medical professionals who urged them to enroll in medical programs so that women could equally contribute to the medical industry.

The students from LICS, Rhodes Park, and Pestalozzi were grateful for the exposure they received from Healit Zambia and said the event opened their eyes and inspired them to pursue careers in science and technology.

“Thank you very much, I have learnt a lot and I feel even more motivated to pursue courses in the medical field” one of the pupils appreciated.

During the facilities familiarization tour, another student recognized the value of scheduling significant occasions that highlight the interests of women and girls in the fields of education.

According to Healit Zambia’s Head of Marketing, Ms. Mary Sikaneta, the medical center will continue to keep high standards in the delivery of high-quality healthcare.

“Our quality services have been recognised in Zambia and beyond hence making
way for the attainment of the Africa CDC panabios 5 star accreditation and
recognition for COVID 19 testing”, Ms Sikaneta said.

She expressed her gratitude for the support given to the healthcare facility by the Health Profession Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and the Ministry of Health and reaffirmed the commitment of her organization to support the government’s efforts to deliver high-quality healthcare to its residents.

“It is on the backdrop of this success that Healit Zambia identified existing gaps in the provision of quality, timely and convenient laboratory services and now transforms into a fully-fledged pathology laboratory focusing on basic as well as specialized tests such as Histopathology, Cytology, Molecular biology, Haematology, Chemistry, Immunochemistry and Serology Tests. This is to ensure that the underserved populations in different parts of the country are served with the right services, at the right time and place” she said.

Ms Sikaneta said Healit lab, will further ensure that access to laboratory needs are provided for all, while leveraging on technology to deliver reliable health services.

“We provide our services in the comfort of the clients location to reduce the time and burden on clients seeking medical laboratory services, and also to prevent any possible spread or cross infections of any possible infectious agents” she stated.

“We shall continue to leverage on technology to ensure that we deliver quality services and in future we hope to expand our services to include lifestyle services, radiology and use drone technology in collecting of samples especially in far and hard to reach areas” Ms Sikaneta further said.
