In order to better reach consumers in the Southern African region, POWER TV, Zambia’s top music, lifestyle, and entertainment channel, has increased its presence in the region.
With the expansion, customers will only be able to receive Power TV on DStv and GOtv platforms in Zimbabwe, Namibia, Malawi, and Botswana.
Speaking when she officiated at the launch to announce the expansion in Lusaka, Chushi Kasanda, Minister of Information and Media said: “the government is proud to see local channels such as Power TV, taking a step further using its exciting local content to not only market Zambia’s skills but also promoting tourism opportunities in the country”.
Powerhouse Media Group Executive President, Mr Kenny Tonga said: “We are excited about this milestone. We decided to go for an exclusive partnership because this will greatly benefit us by increasing our viewership and our reach not only in Zambia but Southern African region”.
“Our exclusivity on DStv and GOtv platforms, will make our local popular programming available to even more people across Southern Africa, thereby helping to market Zambia,” remarked Mr Tonga.
A Powerhouse Media Group subsidiary, Power TV is a 24-hour general entertainment flagship channel that features local music, lifestyle, and entertainment programs in both English and the native tongue.
Leah Kooma, Managing Director at MultiChoice Zambia, said the extension of Power TV will aid in marketing Zambia to the Southern African region during the same event.
“MultiChoice’s hyperlocal strategy aims to continue providing exciting, quality and affordable local entertainment to customers,” she said adding, “It is our quest to help promote Zambia’s culture, tourism beauty, creative space, values and ideals to an international audience through this strategy”.
Mrs Kooma added: “We are confident that the growth of Power TV in the Southern African region will help expose Zambian content to the rest of the Southern African region”.
Power TV, which debuted in October 2018, offers thrilling local entertainment on DStv and GOtv platforms. Its catchphrase, “Muchimunzi Nizee,” which is a slang expression for “It’s exhilarating and occurring in the community” in the Nyanja language, captures the company’s distinctive entertaining approach to show business.
