Murder Of Mr ‘Nguzu’

An 80-year-old “Nguzu” from Muchinga’s Mafinga district was hacked to death with a matchete by unidentified assailants in unexplained circumstances.

Layton Musachi is thought to have finished his dinner, cleaned his hands, and then gone outside to wash his feet before going to bed. Unfortunately for him, he was murdered in cold blood before he could get to sleep.

According to Kaunda Mubanga, the commanding officer of Muchinga province, the event happened on Friday at about 8:00 a.m. in the Mafinga district.

The victim’s third wife, Royce Nambela, 25, he claimed, reported the murder and that her husband had been hacked to death.

“Brief facts of the matter are that on  Friday, March 17th, this year at around 18:00 hours,  the now deceased Layton Musachi together with his family finished having supper and his wife provided him with warm water to wash his feet in the kitchen before retiring to bed. Just as he was washing his feet unknown person(s) attacked him and hacked him three times in the head. By the time his wife came out of the house, the assailants were long gone and she only found her husband lying unconscious in a pool of blood,” he said.

He said that the wife quickly informed neighbors and family members who rushed the now deceased to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Acting on the report, officers visited the Scene of Crime and the findings are that, the deceased was found lying on the floor facing upwards.

Officers further observed three deep cuts at the back of his head. A machete is suspected to have been used. Motive for the murder is not yet established,” he said.
