Police Arrest two individuals for defrauding a Livingstone woman.

After getting arrested and trying to flee, an alleged criminal’s accomplice ran over him, breaking his leg.

Golden Chibwe, also 50, is being held in police custody, while Justine Muyange, 50, of Lusaka’s Chalala neighborhood, has now been admitted to the hospital under police observation.

The two suspects from Lusaka encouraged the victim to travel and pay them by misrepresenting themselves as auto sellers on Facebook.

The victim’s brother pursued the suspects through another Facebook posting in which they attempted to defraud him, leading to their arrest.

The two suspects have been arrested for the offense of collecting money under false pretenses, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.

He stated that the incident took place on February 22nd of this year.

“The two suspects are alleged to have swindled a woman of Livingstone of money amounting to K23, 000 on pretext that they were selling a motor vehicle which they advertised on their Facebook page.The woman, aged 31, agreed with the suspects to transact and travelled to Lusaka where she met the two and paid them the money. In the process of waiting for the vehicle, a Funcargo as arranged, the two suspects disappeared and immediately their phones were switched off,” he said.

According to him, the suspects posted an advertisement for a different vehicle on their Facebook page right after, using other phone numbers. The victim’s brother, a 36-year-old resident of Luapula Province, saw this and contacted the suspects.

“They agreed to meet in Lusaka at Heroes Stadium on February 25, 2023 around 16:00 hours where the two suspects appeared driving a Toyota Allion. Police officers together with members of the public were on alert with the victim who immediately identified the two suspects as they were negotiating with her brother for another transaction. During apprehension of the two suspects, one of them attempted to speed off using their car and as a result he ran over his friend breaking his left leg,” he said

Meanwhile, Police received a report of an abandoned motor vehicle which was parked and abandoned by unknown people in Kabanana Mai Chola area.

“The vehicle was abandoned on February 24, 2023 around 21:00 hours.Police officers were alerted and rushed to the scene where they found a Toyota Landcruiser registration number ABV 5498 blue in colour parked in front of someone’s gate. It was towed and currently parked at the Police Station,” he said.
