President Hichilema Challenges Cabinet Ministers

President Hakainde Hichilema has urged cabinet ministers to be proactive in amending legislation that hinders the country’s economic expansion agenda. President Hichilema emphasized the importance of ministers taking the lead in revising laws to facilitate economic growth, which in turn will create jobs, increase business opportunities, and support the social sectors.

He highlighted the government’s reliance on investments in various sectors such as mining, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, and tourism for economic expansion. President Hichilema made these remarks during the launch of the resumption of mandatory public service training and certification in Lusaka today.

He noted the impact of prolonged dry spells on the energy and agriculture sectors. President Hichilema revealed that the Cabinet would expedite decisions on investments in the energy sector.

During the same event, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa stated that the revival of the civil service through training courses and programs would promote ethical and professional performance.

Royson Mukwena, Executive Director of the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), emphasized that economic governance training for Cabinet Ministers aims to create an enabling environment for economic growth and job creation.

Professor Mukwena added that the training would strengthen public service performance management systems among public servants and institutions. Additionally, the National School of Government of South Africa has partnered with NIPA to offer various training programs to civil servants.

NSG Director General Professor Busani Ngcaweni expressed optimism that the training would develop reforms and initiatives to enhance the performance of public servants.
