Rise in Human Trafficking Cases

Director General of Immigration JAPHET LISHOMWA revealed that 1,172 cases of human trafficking were reported nationwide this year.

Dr. LISHOMWA is upset by the development and claims that both foreigners and Zambian citizens are involved in the trafficking and smuggling of immigrants.

The majority of those detained in connection with human trafficking offenses, according to him, were from the Muchinga and Eastern provinces, although the Copperbelt area saw a greater number of child trafficking instances.

According to Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Augustine Kasongo, frequent checks by immigration agents in the province’s industrial sectors are required since some foreign workers lack the right papers.
