Russia launches new missile waves at Ukraine, striking energy infrastructure

At least 20 people were killed in a missile strike on an apartment building in the eastern city of Dnipro on Saturday, when Russia launched new waves of missile attacks across Ukraine.

Other cities were also affected, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa.

Much of Ukraine is now under an emergency blackout after rockets destroyed electricity infrastructure in multiple cities.

The UK had earlier said that it will aid Ukraine’s defense by sending Challenger 2 tanks there.

The main battle tank of the British army, the Challenger, would enable Kiev’s soldiers in “pushing Russian troops back,” according to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

In response, Russia said that arming Ukraine more would result in stepped-up military actions and increased civilian casualties.

Later on Saturday, when Ukrainians celebrate the Old (or Orthodox) New Year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that only if Ukraine’s Western allies provided the required armaments would Russian attacks on civilian targets be stopped.
