Despite the social media outrage after the news that media personality Somizi Mhlongo will be returning to Metro FM. The station has put all the speculations to rest after officially announcing that Mhlongo will be making his way back to the airwaves.

Social media is in a frenzy as some Metro FM listeners were already threatening to boycott the station if Somizi Mhlongo returns. It appears all the outrage and the public’s plea fell on def ears as the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has officially returned.

Somizi

“RADIO: Somizi Mhlongo returns to Metro FM Somizi will join Khotso Theledi who takes over ‘The Bridge’ from Mondays to Fridays between 09:00 – 12:00. Somizi will be a lead contributor the #AskAMan segment” wrote Entertainment Commentator, Phil Mphela

According to Entertainment Commentator Phil Mphela, not only is Mhlongo returning where he will be co-hosting with Khutjo Theledi. However, Mhlongo has bagged another weekend slot, where he will be co-hosting the Weekend Breakfast Sounds.

“RADIO: Somizi bags 2 jobs on Metro FM Reported earlier that Somizi has returned to Metro and will co-host The Bridge with Khutjo Theledi. Well, Somizi will also co-host Weekend Breakfast Sounds Good on Saturdays with Matt Elle.” wrote Entertainment Commentator, Phil Mphela

Scores of tweeps have called this Metro FM’s move to rehire Mhlongo as desperate and calculative measure. Evidently, Mhlongo has a large fan base, and even though he continues to remain not everyone’s cup of tea. But without a doubt, he will still bring in numbers.

“Wow the numbers must be really bad for them to go this low. This is a really desperate move. There are many talented pure radio people at Metro who have done a great job standing in that slot before and during DJ Sabi’s time. They went for fame Vs radio talent.” wrote Luzouko Mpohla

“…Somizi going back to Metro FM ? But why ? So much radio TALENT on campus radio, the best they can do is to poach that talent Konje radio bathi it a business nowadays. It about numbers. I than feel so sorry for presenters at small stations, koze kube nini?” wrote Maverick Huzaifah
