Three individuals are detained for stealing 700 bags of sugar

After stealing roughly 700 bags of brown sugar worth more than K500,000 while it was in transit, THREE persons have been detained in Kitwe.

Moses Kauseni, 29, of Chimwemwe township in Kitwe, Emmanuel Kashita, 52, and Stelion Mwape, 54, of Twapia township in Ndola have subsequently been charged with the offense of Theft of Goods in Transport.

A second person For receiving stolen property, Hamdy Isarak, 59, a sales manager at the G&G Bakery in Kitwe, has also been accused and detained.

The incident happened on Thursday, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, and the suspects were taken into custody this morning at around 1:00 a.m.

“Police in Kitwe arrested three male persons for the offence of Theft of Goods in Transit in which 700×50 kilogrammes bags of sugar was stolen while in transit from Zambia Sugar Company in Ndola to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The three have been charged and arrested with the offence of Theft of Goods in Transit involving 700 bags of brown Sugar valued at K560,000.Police have also charged and arrested a Sales Manager at G&G Bakery in Kitwe identified as Hamdy Isarak aged 59 of Riverside with the offence of Receiving stolen property,”

“Brief facts are that on March 9, 2023, a Scania truck bearing registration numbers AJD 7498 and AJD 8308T which was driven by Emmanuel Kashita was loaded with 700×50Kg bags of brown Sugar from Zambia Sugar Company in Ndola en route to DR Congo through Mukambo Border. The driver, whilst acting together with others, diverted the truck to one of the G&G Bakery warehouse premises within Kitwe lndustrial area and offloaded the sugar,” he said

He claimed that yesterday at around 16:00 hours, police received a tip of a missing truck carrying sugar and launched an investigation. This inquiry resulted in the arrest of the suspects, who then guided police to the location of the sugar’s offloading.
