Tshisekedi: DRC Has Not Been Advantaged By Mining Wealth

President FELIX TSHISEKEDI of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is disappointed that his nation has not reaped the full benefits of its natural richness.

According to Mr. TSHISEKEDI, despite the DRC’s vast natural resources being at the center of global industrialisation for all of recorded history, its population have not reaped many benefits.

Mr. TSHISEKEDI said his nation is reforming to encourage more investments and increase advantages from the sector in a keynote address at the presidential launch of the 2023 Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.

He claims that more needs to be done to maximize the advantages of minerals like cobalt, nickel, and copper, which led to his government’s signing of an MOU with Zambia for the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries.

The mining industry should take advantage of the opportunities that have arisen as a result of innovations in the sector, according to South African President CYRIL RAMAPHOSA.

Because it contributes significantly to the economy and the Treasury, Mr. RAMAPHOSA claimed that the mining sector is at the center of all other industries.

The inaugural opening was attended by PAUL KABUSWE, the mines and finance minister of Zambia, and Dr. SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE.

In an effort to draw additional investors to the event, which has drawn roughly 9,000 participants, the two Ministers are also participating in a number of side meetings.
