After defeating Seychelles 7-1, Zambia’s under-17 football team moved one step closer to earning a spot in the 2023 under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Algeria.

To qualify for the COSAFA championship semifinals at the ongoing Africa Union sports Council Region five games with a game to spare, Zambia scored seven goals against Seychelles.

Emmanuel Mwanza scored a lot, with goals in the 33rd, 42nd, 75th, 86th, and 90+ minute marks to help his club advance to the championship’s semifinal round.

Shawn Adrienne of the Seychelles received his marching orders for dangerous play in the 38th minute, according to MUSENGE MULIMBA of ZNBC.

With one goal each, Luketekelo Kapowa, Kelvin Phiri, and Samson Malaya also added their names to the scoreboard.

In the 77th minute, Hoareau Lorenzo netted a consolation goal for Seychelles.

And as his squad prepares to play a resolute South Africa on Wednesday, Zambian coach IAN BAKALA insists that finishing first in group B is now their top priority.

Due to both sides’ competitive natures and desire to win the group, he rated the last Group B match versus South Africa as challenging.

Michel Renaud, the Seychelles’ head coach, admitted that the outcome was disheartening but promised to make amends in the team’s upcoming encounter against Mozambique.

The championship’s winners and runners-up will be invited to the 2023 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
