Baby of 11 months Mauled by Dog

A Lusaka man who owns Roza Kahiya farms in the Mungule region is having a bad day after learning that his 11-month-old child died from severe dog bites.

The infant was left on the verandah of his fathers home when the dog who had pulled itself out of its leash pounced on him .

Choolwe Siamuzovu was beaten by the dog and died with multiple dog bite wounds to the head and chest. Danny Mwale, a police deputy spokesperson, confirmed the tragic incident and stated it occurred at the aforementioned farm yesterday at about 18:00.

“The father to the deceased baby identified as Oliver Siamuzovu aged 26, who works at the same Farm, told Police officers who visited the scene that he had left the dog tied around the dog house and went to attend to the pigs when suddenly the dog broke loose the chain belt and went straight to his house where it attacked the baby identified as Choolwe Siamuzovu who was at the verandah,” he said.

Meanwhile, peacefully protesting the killing of a 25-year-old Levy Mwanawasa Medical University student yesterday were students from the University of Zambia (UNZA).

According to reports, Oscar Masaiti was attacked by unidentified assailants while walking to university with a companion.

According to Mr. Mwale, the students calmly protested from 0:00 to 0:00.

“They were peacefully escorted back to UNZA by Police officers and later addressed by the Commissioner of Police for Lusaka Province, Mr Creto Kaanza.The Commissioner advised the students not to conduct their protests or march in the night as it was dangerous for them. He thanked them for cooperating with police officers during their march to and from UNZA main campus.The situation is calm and Police officers have been deployed to both Universities to monitor the situation,” he said.
