A 15-year-old girl who was on her way to school was the target of an attempted sexual assault by a 28-year-old Lusaka male who is currently being held in police custody.
Charles Ngonga is accused of dragging the girl, a grade eight student at an unnamed school, into a corn field where he made an attempt at having intercourse with her.
Thankfully for the victim, others saw what was occurring and rushed to save her.
Danny Mwale, a police deputy spokesperson, verified the event and claimed it happened at about 09:40 in Lusaka’s Libala Residential neighborhood.
Police have detained a 28-year-old man of Lusaka for the offence of attempted defilement. Charles Ngonga is alleged to have attempted to defile a 15 year-old Grade 8 pupil after dragging her into the maize field while she was on her way to school. Facts are that the victim was going to school and a man she does not know grabbed her by the hand and dragged her into the nearby maize field where he was about to undress her,” he said.
At this moment, according to Mr. Mwale, bystanders became aware of what was happening and quickly detained the culprit, who they later turned over to police along with the victim.
