In Ng’ombe Township, a baby who was one year and eleven months old drowned in a water well.
The tragic incident occurred yesterday as the mother was taking a shower outside of their home and the youngster was inside napping.
Members of the community helped to recover the infant, known as Ngwane Nkhata, who was brought to Ng’ombe Clinic where he was later confirmed dead, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.
“It was reported that the baby was sleeping in the house while the mother was bathing.
When the mother returned to the room where the baby was left, she discovered that the baby was missing and immediately she begun searching until the baby was seen gasping for life in an uncovered water well within the yard,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the body is in the University Teaching Hospitals Mortuary awaiting Postmortem and burial.
He said an inquiry file has been opened.
