PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to fly to Namibia today to participate in an urgent extra-ordinary summit of the SADC Troika on politics, defense, and security.

As the newly elected or acting chair of the organ, the President will serve with Namibia and South Africa, the other two members of the Troika.

Hage Geingob, the president of Namibia and the organ’s head, called the summit, according to a statement made by Stanley Kakubo, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation.

He stated that among other important topics, the summit is anticipated to discuss the current political and security situation in the region.

According to Mr. Kakubo, yesterday’s meetings of the senior officials of the organ and the ministerial committee will take place before the meeting.

President Hichilema continues to underscore Zambia’s commitment to regional peace and security, without which there would be no economic advancement.

The President has emphasised the need for deliberate and intentional efforts to preserve peace and stability as well as vigilance in responding to emerging threats,” he said.

According to the Minister, the President would take advantage of his involvement to interact with the Troika leaders as they work together to find regional solutions to regional issues.

He claimed that right after the summit, the President is anticipated to fly back to his own country.
